Gavin & Stacey

And just like that I'm back...

So welcome to yet another instalment of "the Great British Binge Off" in the form of the numero dos Blog in this nostalgia series. As mentioned previously, this week's feature is none other than the comedic romance of two star-crossed lovers - and by that I mean one's English and one's Welsh. In other words a modern day Montague vs Capulates. So join me as we reminisce about; Gavin & Stacey.

season 1

Kicking off season 1, the viewers are introduced to the cast throughout the 6 episodes, with the 2nd show bringing some of the most notable moments. We get to know what Pam is really like, and her unconditional love for her "little prince" as well as stressing over if any of the Welsh side of the cast are vegetarian, and well...we all know where it goes from there.  Further memorable moments include Ness and the Barry Island fairground arcade, where she looks to cash-in on gullible blokes before telling them to; and I quote: "sling your hook or I'll break your face" & Stacey detailing her brunch to all she could contact before Pam turning round and spouting some utter gold - "I'm not being funny Stacey but you wanna get a life, what you said just now was really boring"

season 2

Moving on, season 2 starts off with a bang as the two newly-weds arrive back from their 3-week honeymoon in Greece, before seeing pam cutting about with a banner to rival any queen-sized bed sheet you could think of. Throughout the episode we get to witness various reactions to the couple's return, as well as potentially the biggest comedic t-shirt flop of all time - see pictures below for reference. Further into the season, Smithy finds out he's about to father Nessa's child, but the big plot of the season was...what happened on that eventful fishing trip between Bryn & Jason??? Nobody knows, well nobody expect Dave...from Dave coaches - but I'll let you figure the rest out, not spoilers here I'm afraid.

season 3

If you ask me, there's not much to season 3. The big stand out events are the infamous xmas special where Doris gets "absolutely tw*tted" and Bryn discovers mint baileys, blown away by the fact that this creation exists. Further into the series Gavin and the boys reunite for one big night in Cardiff, dragging Bryn along with them. Viewers get to once again meet the likes of Budgey, Dirtbox, Fingers, Swede, Gary 'n' Simon, Chinese Alan and of course Dino who weirdly managed to teach himself fluent welsh before heading to Bary - I put it down to all the toffees he was drinking tbh (if you know, you know). Ness *almost* gets married, but I'll leave that on a cliff edge for you guys. Oh, and who could forget arguably the best takeaway order ever conceived (pls see exhibit A for reference) by the one and only Smithy.

With that all-in-all folks, I think it's fair to say that this series gets a fairly decent 8.25/10. Funny, light-hearted and episodes are only around 25mins long, so you could very easily binge the whole boxset over a couple of days - I mean it'd be criminal not too.

That's it for this week's insights I'm afraid. Yes, I know all good things must come to an end. But don't you worry cause I'll be back next week for the antipenultimate post in this journalistic disaster of a blog...

ty and see you soon kids x
